Katie Brown’s APPLE FRIES


½ Cup milk
1 egg
1 Cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup sugar
3 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
Canola oil, for frying
3 large Granny Smith apples
Juice from one lemon
Caramel sauce for dipping


Peel apples and cut into wedges then drizzle the Juice from one lemon over slices

To Make the batter: Combine milk, egg, flour, baking powder, 2 tablespoons sugar,1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice and salt in a large mixing bowl, stirring until all of the large clumps are broken up.

Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup sugar with 3 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice for dusting the cooked apple fries.

Set aside.

Slice apples into small wedges, about 1/2" thick.

Pour about 1" canola oil into a skillet over medium-high heat. You can also use a fryer at 350-375 degrees

Using tongs dip each apple slice into the batter, and then gently lower into the oil. Cook one minute then flip and cook another minute until golden brown.

Place fries on a plate with paper towels to drain. And while still hot sprinkle both sides with the spiced sugar blend and serve with warm caramel for dipping.
