Melba Wilson’s Apple Pie

Ingredients

2 cup of diced Braeburn
2 cup of diced Golden Delicious apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 large egg white

Directions

Preheat oven to 400

Let pie crust come to room temperature

Peel apples and then dice apples

In a bowl, add apples, cinnamon and nutmeg

Take a large skillet and melt butter over medium heat

Add apples in the cinnamon and nutmeg mixture to the skillet and then add light brown sugar, kosher salt and cook for about 5- 6 minutes continuously stirring. Thoroughly stir in flour and cook for two minutes. You want the apples to have a bit of a bite as we are going to bake them in the oven later

Take your pie crusts and if you have cutters use your cutter - you can also use a bowl and cut circles

Scoop a tablespoon of apple mixture into the center of the pie crust and fold the crust over. Use a fork to pinch the edges completely closed. Put a few holes in the top of your crust before putting them in the oven

Beat your egg white and brush it on the top of your pie

Bake for 45 minutes until nicely brown

Add vanilla ice cream
